What are the different types of liposuction techniques?

Dr. Barnes offers the following types of liposuction techniques:

• Neck liposuction – targets the excess fat under the chin and around the neck area

In addition, Dr. Barnes and his associates perform tummy tucks for both men and women, which is a separate procedure from liposuction but often combined with it. It involves the removal of excess skin and tightening abdominal muscles for a more defined midsection.

Body Liposuction Surgery Facts

Procedure:

Improves body shape by removing exercise-resistant fat deposits using a vibrating cannula and vacuum system. Using the tumescent technique, targeted fat cells are infused with a local anesthetic solution containing medication prior to liposuction to numb the treatment areas and reduce post-operative bruising and swelling. Liposuction areas include the abdomen, pubic area, flanks, armpits (auxillary), upper and lower bra line, upper arms, inner and outer thighs, inner knees, back hump (Dowagers hump).

Length:

1-3 hours

Anesthesia:

Dr. Barnes performs all of his procedures safely & comfortably under awake local anesthesia, with oral sedation, and with the added comfort of ProNox (laughing gas) available. Twilight or general anesthesia can be arranged in our accredited surgery center for an additional cost.

Outpatient:

Usually outpatient. 

Side Effects:

Temporary bruising, swelling, numbness, soreness, burning sensation. Temporary fluid drainage from incision sites. Possibility of small incision scars that improve over time

Risks:

Asymmetry. Rippling or laxity of skin. Pigmentation changes. Skin injury. Fluid retention. Excessive fluid loss leading to shock. Infection.

Recovery:

Back to work: 2 days to 2 weeks depending on the area. More strenuous activity we advise waiting 2 to 4 weeks. Full recovery from swelling and bruising is up to 8 months and sometimes a year. Tickle Lipo with the use of tumescent technique may decrease post-operative bruising and swelling

Results:

Permanent when maintained with a sensible diet and exercise
